Mercedes-Benz showcased prototypes of the EQG electric luxury SUV during CES 2024. The automaker is currently manufacturing the electric version of the G-Class SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in the latter half of 2024 in the international market. The all-electric vehicle will be named the Mercedes-Benz EQG. The SUV has been creating a buzz in the market over the last few months. Recently, multiple prototypes of the luxury EV were witnessed performing a synchronized tank turn on the Las Vegas Strip at the CES 2024 trade show.

The all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQG prototypes performed a 360-degree tank turn, which is one of the most amazing things an EV can do. A tank turn, aka the "G-turn," is when an e-car performs a rapid spin in one spot, propelled by e-motors. Mercedes-Benz released a teaser of four prototypes of the EQG taking a 360-degree tank turn on the Las Vegas Strip during the annual trade show.

These impressive tank turns are possible thanks to four independent electric motors fitted to each wheel, allowing the EV to rotate effortlessly in one place. The tank turn is usually performed by applying either forward or reverse power to every corner of the vehicle, depending on the side you are looking at. As a result, the vehicle is capable of turning 360 degrees on its axis.

The riders of all EQG electric SUVs synchronized the timing correctly, therefore enabling the cars to rotate in the exact same direction effortlessly. When it comes to real-life driving situations, a 360-degree tank turn is not a necessity, but in the case of off-roading, where one is stuck somewhere, the feature could be useful.

The manufacturer has not shared the powertrain specifications of the concepts, but the four e-motors are likely to produce a complete output of about 670 bhp. Mercedes-Benz will provide a lithium-ion battery set as an option with silicon anode chemistry that can provide an enhanced range of more than 483 km.

The EQG concepts were covered in a light camouflage wrap that perfectly hid the fine details of the EV. However, the overall silhouette was easily guessed. The upcoming SUV will have a body-on-frame architecture specifically designed for EVs. It will come with carbon Kevlar in the underbody panels guarding the drivetrain components, whereas the front suspension and rigid back axle improve its driving quality.
